Born in South Africa, Lemonella grew up in a world of contrasts that would shape her eclectic taste and vision of music as a vessel for memory, culture, and therapeutic exploration. As a teenager she was influenced by early hip hop, her father’s record collection and the poets of the sixties counterculture, forming the basis of her first mixtapes. At fifteen she was introduced to the electronic music scenes of Johannesburg and Cape Town - instantly hooked on the freedom of the dance floor and its power to connect people beyond societal differences. She began djing in 2014, and held an example for other women around her to do the same.
A Berlin resident since 2017, her creative language is diverse yet distinctive, expressing her ethereal imagination and willingness to push the boundaries of storytelling into transportive and poetic experiences. Not defined by genre, her sets reflect an ever-evolving dance floor sound with a flair for the warm, hypnotic, raw and rolling groove. She is seasoned in creating both dreamy ambient days and thumping sweaty nights.
Lemonella has toured clubs and festivals within the Americas, South Africa and Europe, and is a regular on festival rosters like Fusion (DE) and Garbicz (PL).
